Applied Receives Two Awards
Bismarck, ND May 22, 2003 – The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce held its annual Small Business Recognition breakfast at the Radisson Inn on May 22,2003. Several business leaders from the community received awards for growth.
The Gold Star Award was presented to Dwight Hinkel, Chief Executive Officer, of Applied Engineering, Inc.; Donnarae Zander from the Hair Hospital Body Clinic, Inc.; and Jan Frohlich from Leingang Home Center.
These businesses had to meet the following criteria:
- Being in business in the Bismarck-Mandan area for at least three years
- Showing sales growth of a 10 percent minimum increase in any three of five years
- Increasing employees by at least six full-time equivalent positions in any three out of the past five years
2003 Excellence in Business Award Presented
Applied Engineering also received the Excellence in Business Award. This award is presented to the Gold Star recipient who has experience the most growth in number of employees and sales.

Applied Engineering provides hardware and software solutions for computer networks and applications, product design and manufacturing consulting. Applied Engineering, founded in 1986, currently employs 100 people, 35 of which are in Bismarck.
